The Finger Lakes region in New York is renowned for its distinctive wine terroir, which is a combination of the unique soil which is shale, limestone, and clay. These soils can impart specific mineral qualities to the grapes. The climate is cool, moderated by the deep lakes, Winemakers can take advantage of the microclimates to cultivate specific grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc that thrive in particular conditions.

About the Producer
Julia and Alex Alverez-Perez met in 2012 while working in New York City restaurants. They spent many years as sommeliers and restaurant managers before transitioning to winemaking. After working at wineries in Austria’s Burgenland and Australia’s Adelaide Hills, they moved back to the East Coast and settled in the Finger Lakes. They started Usonia in 2019, and in 2021 began farming their own vineyard, currently planted to Riesling and Cabernet Franc.
